There’s been a theme running through the podcasts this month as we continue to look at what it takes to engage with others when it’s so much easier to retreat, and that theme is humility.

Y’all, we can continue to retreat from hard conversations and allow the enemy of our souls to continue to divide us OR we can make up our minds to humble ourselves.

Let’s choose the latter. It’s going to be difficult. It may stir up some fear and anxiety, but it will be worth it every time, and Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith and Lori Roeleveld are here to help us.

They are the authors of Colorful Connections: 12 Questions About Race That Open Healthy Conversations, and I’m grateful for how they continue to encourage to shake off the fatigue surrounding these issues and engage.

2 Chronicles 7:14

Today, we’re reading one of my life verses, 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV), over one another as we begin to get into this conversation. It reads:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Dr. Saundra and Lori Challenged Us to Think About:

  • Why This work Was So Important;
  • Why Hard Conversations About Race Are Not Optional;
  • Your Concerns And How They Can Help You Connect with Others;
  • How You Can Listen When You’re Not Yet Ready to Lead;
  • Practical Steps to Help You Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
  • What Questions You Can Ask Yourself

Enough said. Press Play.

Meet Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith

Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith is a Board-Certified internal medicine physician and work-life integration researcher.

She is the founder of Restorasis, a professional development agency dedicated to restoring wellbeing in the workplace by working with companies that care about their employees and want them to succeed at work as well as at home.

As a busy physician, author, and mom, she understands that life’s demands can leave you feeling mentally overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and physically tired. Daily she helps high-achievers deal with their work-rest imbalance and find actionable answers to the thriving lifestyle they desire.

Meet Lori Stanley Roeleveld

Lori Stanley Roeleveld is an award winning author, speaker, and blogger. Like Tolkien’s hobbits, Lori like to be cozy, comfortable, and eat her meals on time. However, she learned then that settling in, interferes with traveling on the narrow road to the heart of Jesus Christ, our true home.

Lori Stanley Roeleveld has degrees in psychology and biblical studies, but learned most of what she knows in life’s trenches, raising children and working with families in crisis.

She currently works in Rhode Island with at-risk families or those who have a child with a serious emotional disorder. Lori’s previous books include Jesus and the Beanstalk and Running from a Crazy Man (and Other Adventures Traveling with Jesus). She also writes a popular blog at www.loriroeleveld.com.
