The Search for Humility and the Power of Gratitude
It’s impossible to host a series on integrity without considering how our conversation influences our ability to impact others for the Kingdom, and that is why I am so very grateful for Pastor Mark Batterson’s time today. Pastor Mark has recently authored a new book, Please, Sorry, Thanks: Three Words that Change Everything, and I am so grateful he accepted my invitation to join us.
Today, he talks with us about:
- the humility our Lord modeled,
- the ability we have to choose our response when tragedy strikes or we find ourselves on the receiving end of the pain someone refuses to acknowledge
- celebrity culture in the Church and so much more.
Today, we’re reflecting on James 1:26 CSB
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

I asked Pastor Mark:
- What inspired you to write Please, Sorry, Thanks?
- Can you talk to us about how important it is to follow Christ’s example of humility?
- What is the difference between washing others’ feet and washing our hands of the situation, and what do we need to know about people pleasing?
- How do you conduct yourself with integrity when someone refuses to apologize for an offense they’ve commited against you?
- What can someone do to reset their priorities when they realize they have failed to uphold God’s values?
- What are you thankful for?
